In Monumental School we offer Spanish classes based on a communicative approach. This methodology is based on the idea that learning a language successfully comes through having to communicate real meaning. When learners are involved in real communication, their natural strategies for language acquisition will be used, and this will allow them to learn to use the language.
In our school, we make sure the activities our teachers bring to class are learner-centered and create the need for real communication, therefore our students learn in a natural and meaningful way.
In Monumental School we attend to the specific needs of our students and to their goals and expectations regarding the language that they are learning. We also pay attention to affect in language learning, or in other words, how students feel regarding the learning process.
We try to help them to get rid of negative emotions such as shyness and anxiety by creating dynamics and activities that allow a connection between the language and the student’s life and personal experiences, which generates a relaxed and sharing atmosphere.
We organize our classes with motivating activities which are meaningful and with which put several skills and learning strategies into practice at a time. Furthermore, we believe students should learn from their mistakes so we encourage students to feel good about them and see them as something natural, necessary and positive.
In Monumental School we believe in learning languages for communicating, both orally and written. Our goal is to teach our students to express correctly in another language the things they need to in their real lives. With that in mind, we teach recurrent grammar structures and vocabulary by helping students discover the rules themselves through the teacher’s guidance and many examples, which will guarantee that students become more independent learners in the future, as they will have been taught not only the language but how to approach on their own the learning of structures and words they have never seen before.
Of course, we also give a lot of importance to listening and reading skills. To practice these, we provide authentic materials according to level, which could be conversations and text they would hear or have to read in their everyday lives.
In Monumental School we make sure to provide qualified, native teachers. Our qualified teachers know how to use the best methodology and techniques to ensure our students’ learning and also have a unique knowledge of the culture of their homelands, which, in our opinion, is also a big part of learning a language.
